ORC Guest Participant

Happy November! This can only mean 2 things… Lauren’s Hipster Chic Bedroom makeover is just about done and we’re moving ahead to the holiday rush! Okay, maybe I should slow down a bit and just focus on the last few weeks of my guest participation in the One Room Challenge (ORC), hosted by Calling It Home. Did you guys hear from last week’s post that this challenge has been extended by 1 week? Yes, lovely readers, the big reveal of Lauren’s room will now take place the week of November 13th!

Last week, I mentioned how I desperately needed to find the perfect set of curtains for Lauren’s bedroom. Without having the curtains up, it was really hard to determine how much space I have to install decor by the window.

After searching several stores in person, I came up with these 2 options:

Both curtain sets have geometric prints but Option 1 has a light, silvery color while Option 2 has a print that was more pronounced. One was more on the glam side while the other was more on the boho/hipster side.

Can you guess which one I chose?

Curtain Panels

Before any makeover takes place, I usually assess the current decor in my home to determine what items I can re-use or upcycle for the new space.

The curtain rod was something that still works for Lauren’s bedroom. All it needed was a little paint job on the finial.

Old curtain rod

A simple coat of black paint was all I needed to make this old curtain rod work for the new bedroom. Notice the peek of the hanging window treatment?

As you can see, I opted for OPTION 2 with the curtain panels. 🙂

Here’s a BIG PEEK of how the curtains look by Lauren’s new bed. Can’t wait to put up decor around this blank canvas.

Besides the old curtain rod, there’s also other items that I plan to re-use in Lauren’s bedroom. Since we need extra storage in the room, I decided that this shelf (purchased over 15 years ago) would be useful to store some of Lauren’s toys.

The “natural” color had to go though! Check out Roxie, my slacker dog, in the background. She gets a kick out of watching me work!

Refinishing shelf

After 3 coats of white paint (Sherwin Williams – Extra White), this shelf was ready for Lauren’s bedroom.

Before I go, let me share a peek at one of the throw pillows you will be seeing in the final reveal.

Isn’t this black and white pillow adorable?! I had gotten this at a little boutique during my travels this past summer. You can say that this pillow inspired me to incorporate the “Black and White” color scheme into Lauren’s bedroom design.
