The One Room Challenge is back and I’m really excited to again participate in this popular design challenge hosted by Calling It Home. You can check out how I completed my daughters’ shared bedroom here.
The catch to this challenge is that the makeover has to be completed within 6 weeks. Trust me, those 6 weeks fly by! While there are 20 design bloggers who are the official participants of the One Room Challenge, anyone with a blog can participate as well. The final room reveals will take place on November 9th (invited designers) and November 10th (guest participants). Eeeek – so soon!
The room I decided to make over is our master bedroom. I’m not even sure if I can call this room a master bedroom (makes me laugh) since it’s not a big space at all. Do I have a master bathroom or walk-in closet inside? Nope, but this girl isn’t complaining too much.
BEFORE PHOTOS
While neat from a recent fall cleaning purge, this room is SO Blah.
It’s almost like we tried updating the room but never quite made it to the finish line. Experience tells me that participating in the “One Room Challenge” will give me the motivation I need to fully redesign this space. Modern + Glam is the look I’m after. 🙂
Look how plain this room looks (mismatched furniture doesn’t help either). Since the paint color still looks good, I’d like to avoid repainting this room other than doing some stenciling work on an accent wall.
I’m removing the white wire organizer on the right side of the room for sure! For the non-matching dressers, I plan to paint them either white or ivory. The hardware on the dressers also need to be changed. But you knew that already. 🙂
Notice all the empty and “wasted” space above the dressers. My plan is to add shelving, organizational baskets, and artwork to fill out this space. Lots to think about!
In below photo, the curtains you see (haphazardly hung) are there to cover our small closet. Curtains over our closet was never meant to be a permanent solution.
Before I get into the “Inspiration Rooms”, I’d like to first show you my inspiration closet from Closet POSSIBLE:
If my room can speak, it would probably say scream, “O-M-G! Yes, we need this in our lives!”
I’m thrilled that the lovely folks at Closet POSSIBLE will be sponsoring my closet makeover for this challenge. A complete overhaul of our closet was the biggest “bucket list” in our bedroom. I can’t wait to share more details in next week’s One Room Challenge update.
INSPIRATION ROOMS
Inspiration Room # 1 from Dear Lillie Blog
Takeaway: It’s all about glam and feminine details in this room. I love the white curtains against the dark walls.
Inspiration Room #2 from Roses St. Trading Co.
Takeaway: Love the color combination of indigo and fuchsia against the white and neutral background.
Inspiration Room #3 from House to Home Magazine
Takeaway: I love that accent wall and want to stencil a similar pattern in my room.
Here’s my main “TO DO” list for our bedroom makeover:
1) Work with Closet POSSIBLE to overhaul bedroom closet.
2) Paint bed and dressers white/ivory.
3) Paint and reupholster accent chair.
4) Install curtains to both windows.
5) Lots of shopping – New bedding, throw pillows, area rug, picture frames, throw blanket… and quite possibly the kitchen sink!
6) Create gallery wall.
7) Stencil an accent wall behind bed. {90% sure that’s the plan}
8) Install shelving for organizational baskets.
As you can see, there’s a lot of DIY work to be done within these short 6 weeks. It’s a relief to know that my closet is in good hands with Closet POSSIBLE. When you visit their website here, you will see why I entrusted them for this major project in my room. Stay tuned next week as I share more details of the plans.
I’m so excited to see what amazing projects other participants come up with for this challenge! Be sure to visit Calling It Home to check out the projects being shared.

I love the glam style that you’re going after–I bet it’s going to look great! I’m also doing our master bedroom for the ORC and I had to laugh at how much I can relate to calling a walk-in closet, mine is super cramped too haha.
Thanks, Angela! Glad that you can relate. That’s awesome that you’re doing your master bedroom too.

Great closet system. We don’t have a walk-in closet either, but with a little organization, my husband and I are able to share it, even with all of our seasonal clothes not packed away!
