modern-glam-master-bedroom-makeover-week-3It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge (ORC) and that means we’re halfway through to the finish line! If this is the first time you’re hearing about the ORC hosted by Calling It Home, please catch up with Week 1 and Week 2 posts.

Here again are the inspiration rooms behind my “Modern Glam Master Bedroom” makeover:

For week 3, it’s all about making BIG messes and creating the backdrop needed so I can start styling for my “Modern Glam” master bedroom makeover.

“NO MESS, NO GAIN.”

In an effort to make myself feel better, I’ve been telling myself that “the dust will pass.” As you may know, we’ve been prepping our old closet area for Closet POSSIBLE‘s armoire installation. So between removing old walls, adding new sheet rock, spackling, and sanding out the spackle, there’s been white powdery dust everywhere!

Here’s a perfect example — who’s footprints are these?! Before I point to my husband (uh huh), I’ll just say that this type of mess comes with the territory. I can only laugh it off and go grab a wipe or two…or three!  After all, the guy didn’t ask for the room makeover. He’s just rolling with it. Happy Wife, Happy Life, right? 😉

Besides my husband, I’d like to thank my awesome neighbor Ray for assisting my husband with tearing down and putting up drywall on our closet. It just makes projects easier when you have someone who knows what he’s doing!

Painting The Walls

Initially I wasn’t planning to repaint our bedroom since the walls were in fair condition. After giving it some thought, I realized that there would be no shortcuts in this makeover. The room would look better and more sophisticated in a dark grey color.

For the interior of our house, we’ve always used Sherwin Williams‘ products so it was a no-brainer on which brand of paint to use. I’d like to thank my local Sherwin Williams store for providing the paint and tools needed to repaint our room and furniture! Such helpful and friendly folks there!

Getting paint samples is always a SMART thing to do.

We ultimately chose a grey color called “Software” for all 4 of our walls. The color on the right (Morning Fog) was pretty but the darker, more charcoal looking shade (software) suited this room better.

Here’s a peek at how the color looks on our wall!

Repainting Furniture

In order for our king bed to stay, the color needed to change from black to something in the white/ivory color family. Matching up with the color sample I got from Closet POSSIBLE, I selected a Sherwin Williams’ paint color called “White Duck – SW7010.”

First, I painted our bed with 2 coats of primer.

After priming, I painted our bed with 3 coats of the “White Duck – SW7010” paint.

Below is a little preview of how the bed looks currently. Never mind the curtain I draped on the headboard. I have plans to make an upholstered headboard! Hoping to get that done by this weekend.

I’ve been on a painting frenzy the past week. Not only was our bed painted, I repainted the dresser below (used to be brown). Isn’t it so pretty in ivory? I used the same color as my bed (White Duck – SW7010).

Now that half of the big projects are done, I can start shopping for bedding and decorative items for our room. Here’s an inspiration photo from Haute Off The Rack.

This is exactly the “modern glam” look I am envisioning for my bed. In fact, I have 2 new throw pillows that look exactly like the blush-colored furry pillows you see in photo below!  I’ll share more of my finds next week.

Before I sign off to tackle more of my long list of “To Do’s,” I’m excited to say that our closet will be installed THIS FRIDAY! The install date was moved up a few days early. Thank you Closet POSSIBLE! I need to restore order back to my clothes. Poor things are in hangers, laying on top of a bed in my guest bedroom. 🙁
