Envelope Pillow Image1

I did it! I sewed my first pillow cover…an envelope pillow cover, to be exact. As I’ve stated in a previous post (link here), I’m inspired to do more crafts this year. While I’ve been doing crafts for as long as I can remember, none of these crafts have involved a sewing machine. An inspiration for getting my 1st sewing project started is Elegance & Enchantment’s Creative Challenge 2015. Michelle at Elegance & Enchantment is one of the wonderful bloggers I follow. She recently challenged her readers to completing 12 months of creative projects! For the first challenge, readers can choose from crocheting, knitting, sewing, weaving, embroidery or quilting.

I chose sewing because this year, I was determined to become good buddies with Ms. Sewing Machine. She held the key to so many possibilities with my home decor planning. As a good beginner’s project, I thought I’d start off with making a pillow cover. Since I’m that nut lady who is constantly buying pillows, this project is as fun as it is practical.

Before you read any further, I think you should know that this is not a tutorial post. There are tons online. When working on this project (with the guidance of a crafty friend), I wanted to learn this sewing project without distractions. I didn’t want to stop every 2 minutes to document every step. Once sewing a pillow becomes second nature, I plan to create a tutorial here on the blog. 🙂

Now…on to my non-tutorial post:

While perusing through fabric, I could not help but gravitate to the 3 swatches pictured below. I am such a sucker for geometric patterns! It was so hard for me to choose between these 3 color choices. After mulling around for 20 minutes, I ultimately chose the cheery light blue fabric in the middle.

I couldn’t help but get a little excited about pinning the fabric and prepping it for sewing.

Here’s how the back of the pillow looks. Envelope pillow covers are great because you can take the covers off for washing and it eliminates the need for zippers. With zippers, you know it’s only a matter of time before they get stuck!

Here’s how the newest pillow addition looks against my store bought pillows. I think she’s holding up quite well. Don’t you think? 😉

Now that I’ve completed my first project using a sewing machine, I am so pumped to work on the next! Before I get to the next project, I have some good news for my EMAIL subscribers. I am sewing another pillow cover for one of you! In celebration of Beauteeful Living’s upcoming 1 year anniversary (March 20th), I will be giving away a few things (via raffle to my Email subscribers). One of them is a replica of the pillow cover I shared today. I  will be notifying the winner via e-mail after March 20, 2015.
